Last week we had a job for a contractor that involved mortising out for treads in a pair of 10/4 by 13 African Mahogany stair stringers. As much as we would like to have cut these on the Bot, the size made it prohibitive. We did cut the template on the bot and then used a router, bushing and 1/2" bit to do the mortise's. I have obviously forgotten how much actual work that is, how much dust you eat and how tired you get doing it the "Old Fashioned" way. Not to mention all the screws in the stepdown plunge stops that came loose and of course the bit that loosened from vibration.
I also am in the process of cutting some 4/4 Cherry C-Tops that have an 8/4 edge. There is not a square corner on the job. 3.81 degrees and radii everywhere. Here is a pic of the 8/4 edges right after cutting. Sure glad I dont have to use the bandsaw and sand method!
