I want to buy a shopbot to cut on 3/16" foamboard, but many people told me I need a tangential knive to get a good cut, is there a better way to this soft material. This is not leather, therefore I don't think I can use rotatary knive.
any suggestion welcome.

David,
A ShopBot can cut your foam board cleanly. You will most likely need the vacuum hold-down option to keep the sheets held flat to the table while cutting.

Cutting foamboard (commonly used in picture framing) is best done on a CMC - computerized mat cutter. Many brands out there...

We have a Gunnar 3000 that only cuts foam core board all day/night. Some have vacuum hold downs and some use an edge clamp. Faster and much cleaner than using a router.

Use a spiral upcut o flute cutter, 1/8" or 3/16". If you do not have a vacuum table then two way tape your sheet down. Both ways work well...
