Hey guys, just curious, I dont notice the yellow bars that came with my PRS mounted on any of your machines either. Were they supposed to be installed by my "Certified Liscensed Electrician"too :-)
Many thanks to all that helped. R. Ball - I know youre in town so if I can be of any help let me know ~ Thanks again all of you!

We simply mounted them on the hole patterns on the front and back of the chariot that seemed to fit.
Dunno if they really protect much, but they look rather smashing.
They are to be installed if you plan on riding the Bot... like on a roller coaster. CC or CP of 48 inches or more at 10"/sec. repeat as many as you can hold on.
Hope that make sense... maybe someone can post some pictures...!

"Simply smashing" Henrik either you are a Harry potter fan or you learned English at St. Martin in the Fields ~ I love it :-)
Paco - I'll try that when I get home from the pub !!

Neville, Henrik & Paco...
I am sorry that I didnt include the disclaimer: The nice yellow guards were removed only for clarity of the pictures...

They weren't ready for shipment for those of us that received some of the first PRS's. Unless I'm the only one. ;-)

In the last pic in this post (http://www.talkshopbot.com/forum/show.cgi?tpc=312&post=55163#POST55163) you can see the front bar mounted. I don't know if the install is proper, but this is the only way it seemed to fit.
Naturally, being a Swede, I could not resist placing some yellow on an otherwise blue machine.
Neville; not Potter nor St Martin's, but a helthy dose of internet addiction. Oh, well, and some higher education, I suppose, but mostly reading stuff on teh intarwebs.
I never got any with my new PRS

Sooo, what is the Official Word from Shopbot?
Are the yellow bars for the wider than 4' machines to add some extra stability?
Are they a "guard" for OSHA safety requirements that will only get in the way and those of us without them should be thankful?
Or are they really antennae that transmit Moves to The Mother Ship?
Seriously, I cannot imagine them adding any stability to the already beefy carriage. I'm gonna stick to a "safety device" since they are painted yellow.....

Not sure what the 'official' word is, but I think that they are there for safety purposes - a sort of cow catcher. They are not there for stability.

Those of you without them, you're not missing much. They can get in the way of z-zeroing, though you learn to cope.
They are not rigid, there's quite a bit of flex in them, so as Brady says they are not there for any stability purposes.
Generally speaking, they look kinda nice and yeah, moving the chariot by hand (not that we really do that) is a little bit easier -- like holding the chariot against the stop blocks to do a stepper motor squaring.
I suppose it would be nicer to be hit by that bar rather than the spindle if an accident should happen, but it does seem a bit far-fetched.

I took a quick look at them and figured it out, they convert the bot to a portable tool so you can work on the job site. They attach one to each side and 10 or 12 guys can easily move the bot from job site to job site. There is also an optional 150' extension cord (12 ga of course).
Neville has a great shop. Would that we all could have a shop as nice. Enjoyed the visit.
