Here's a recent sample of my work - this was drawn and toolpathed in VCP, and cut from cherry veneered MDF. Finish is sherwin-williams medium rubbed effect pre-cat lacquer.

Gerald,
I recently cut the 10 commandments for one of my sons in a piece of red oak veneered MDF. How did you get the Vcarve to not create small splintering at the edges of the letters? Down cut bits cutting through the veneer seem to cut cleanly, but I thought the vcarve would splinter a little. Nice work by the way.

Very nice Gerald! What did you use for stain if any?

Scott, cherry's grain doesn't have the tendency to chip like oak does. I prefer to use cherry veneer MDF. Some of the cheaper veneered MDF can be troublesome too in that the veneer isn't glued to the MDF as well (Menards oak and birch)

Got a big cherry one to make today myself. ;-)

Scott N, if you have a sharp cutter, v-carving works quite well on MDF. Centurion's cutters work well, however this entire engraving was done with a 1" 90 degree cutter from www.pricecutter.com (http://www.pricecutter.com) Their 90 degree bits have worked well for me.

Scott W, the stain is Sherwin Williams Bright Cherry. I liked the rich red color too.
