Scanning with a probe

I am getting material in my scan that is not on the part. When I bring the scan into Partworks3D it looks like lines coming up off the part. It happens on most of my scans.

I have checked the connections they are good. On this scan I happened to be watching the probe scanning at the area that showed the extra materail. It seemed to be moving along just fine.

Any ideas???

I get this also when probing. I believe that it is normal, esp. when the probe is going thru an area where there is no contact at all with the item being probed. It seems to be like a "residual" after coming off the item. Perhaps someone else knows of a way to minimize/ eliminate this?
