Can someone tell me in laymen terms what is the difference in the two machines (Alpha and Standard) other than the cost? Thanks in advance.

I'm no expert but -
The Alpha has way more SPEED AND POWER.
The Alpha has different steppers, geared, and a different controller. The steppers have a feedback of sorts so they don't loose steps.
Typical cutting speeds with standard are around 3 - 5 IPS I think and the Alpha can cut almost as fast as the spindle will let it, 10 - 15 IPS.
I use my machine in my cabinet business and would not consider a standard machine. Depends what you are doing.

Hey Roger,
I run a PRT Alpha to cut 3/4 melamine and veneer ply. I use a 2 flute 3/8 down spiral, 4 ips, 2 passes with a PC router. Does that sound right? What do you run, if you don't mind me asking.
Thanks, Terry
