View Full Version : Fuzzy Dibond?

We were cutting some 4mm Dibond (aluminum composite with a PVC core) using an 1/8" upcut spiral at 1 ips, and all the edges of the PVC are fuzzy - like tiny short hairs all over the edges that won't come off with a brush and compresed air. They don't even sand off very well either.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Is it dibond with the solid pvc core or one of the products with the corrugated core? I've never got the corrugated type to cut real well, though I think it was a straight o-flute that did the best for me.

Dibond has a solid polyethylene core - not PVC like I said earlier.

I cut about 40 parts out of 2 4'x8' diebond sheets and simply used a straight single fluted carbide bit, as recommended by some other shopbotters. Worked great. The only fuzz I got was the protecting film that was on the diebond surface; but that just peels off.
I use 2 straight edges O-flutes tools for Dibond/Alupanel and such. RPM and feeds depends on the shapes. I also climb cut and always ramp-in the cut on lead-ins. One straight edge O-flute tool still leave some uncut chips on corners. Spiral tools will leave a fussy edge.
As always, largest diameter you're allowed to use and shortest cutting length for maximum tool rigidity.

Paco ...
Would you please tell me where you get your bits with 2 straight edges and 0-flutes?
Thanks!
