Boy wouldn't you know it? The minute i get things working right this happens

8338

It happens from these screws coming loose

Is there any good reason i can't use a drop of loctite on them?

I never use loctite, I use a tad of silicone on any bolt I dont want coming loose. It prevents it from vibrating out and when I want to get it out I dont have to fight it.

I've used Teflon tape wrapped around the threads of a bolts.

Try the blue removable version of Loctite. That should be fine for that size fastener. The red would be harder to remove later if needed.

My formula for use...

A single dab of blue for bolts you know may get removed and you want some vibration protection

A fair amount to a full coat of blue if it may never be removed, but you might want to. Or there is a lot of vibration.

A single dab of red on high vibration I may want to remove it some day.

A full coat of red, I never want to remove it again. I find the red permenant stuff will often result in wringing off the head before it lets go except on large bolts ( 1/2" plus )

I've used silicone before but never where heat may build up. I don't know how well it would do above 100 degrees, thought I've never tried it.

I went and got the blue removable version of loctite. Unbeknownst to me a couple times i get this "driver fault error" and couldn't figure out what it was till i looked down between the back of the chuck and the indexer holder and saw the screws sticking out and saw the damage.
Hopefully that will cure the problem. thanks!
