Woodcraft Supply sells a book on making electric guitars.

Although I've never made either, the woodwork involved in making an electric guitar looks much simpler than your other mentioned project, a violin.

Sara, I am hooked on bass guitars. :D they are very easy to do. I did mine by hand and bandsaw. If you have a friend who plays bass i would sugguest you work from a bass for the first time. It makes it really easy work. Then you don't have to worry about measurements to much. I personally wouldn't buy any kits or books to much. waste of money, they are very simple. the hardest part of it is the neck. This is where shop bot comes in. I am looking into getting a shop bot which in the next 4-5 years. I don't have the type of money but i using the schools. :D good to be friends with shop teachers. But you can have shop bot do all your cutting for you then put it together. :D this is were making tons of money is made.

I was intrigued so I decided to give it a try... the hard part is holding the bass down on the spoilboard. I decided to use industrial tape. However, the spoilboard got all wet and as the bit cut with the goo coming out... then the cat kept trying to jump up on the table... Anyway...

:-)

Sorry... I'm sick... I know...

Visit Stewart-McDonald at http://www.stewmac.com for a large selection of books about fabrication, wiring, set up, and finishing of electric guitars and other stringed instruments.

And of course there are quite a few parts to buy. For a bass, that would include tuner machines, a nut to file into place, fretwire and tools to deal with the fretwire, dot markers, strings, pickguard material, pickups, springs for pickups, screws, wire, tone and volume potentiometers, a couple of capacitors for those, an output jack, a ground wire, a bridge plate, string saddles, string ferrules, and strap buttons. Don't forget to cut some mother-of-pearl inlay for your logo on the headstock.

There are also special tools which might be handy. Stew-Mac will be darned happy to sell them to you.

R ball.... Its way easyer to just do it all by hand then machine routering if thats what your thinking. :D trying to take the easy cheatin way huh? Good bandsaw, router, files, orbital sander, edge/ oscilating sander does the trick. while it does take more time to build with out cnc. :D you can take more pride in your work then if you let the machine do the work while u sit back. can build the body in about 3-4 days depending on how long i work for.
