Hey Botters!

Here is a recent project using Brady Watson's laser scanning service and Vectric's Cut3D.

It started with a request to make a 5 ft tall double sided wooden mask based on a smaller version.

Here is the original mask.

After Brady's laser scan and his cleanup of imperfections in the model, here is the 3D model (as viewed by Cut3D).

I took this model into TurboCad Pro v14 and mirror copied it back to back, flattened it slightly to reduce the z height, then sliced it to create the separate layers.

The using Cut3D, I carved the individual pieces from cypress slabs and included registration holes for alligning the layers. My customer assembled it and applied the finish.

Here is the finished product.

This was a really fun but challenging job.

On to the next!

Can you explain more about the registration holes, i.e. where you put them and how the alignment process worked?

Any photos showing that would be great.

Outstanding!! How much does that completed sign weigh? I'll bet you have a big smile on your face whenever you pass by that corner.

That's awesome! What software did you use to slice the model?

Thanks for the comments guys. Here are some answers to your questioins...

Randall: The model consisted of 5 layers. The registration holes were made to go through the middle 3 layers and into the outer layers to accept a 1/2" dowel. Sorry. I don't have pictures of that.

David: The completed sign weighs about 300 pounds.

Dave: I used TurboCad Pro v14 to slice the model, but Cut3D will do that also.

Robert: I see some 3D bats in your future! BTW: Get well soon!!!
