My Z axis depth was unpredictable today. A number of times I typed in a MZ command and the spindle would move a fraction of distance and stop, and the positon display would indicate that it had moved the full distance. Not sure if it's related or not, but sometimes when I'm using the keypad-page up/down buttons to move the Z axis, the control software freezes.

The grounding clip on my dust skirt was unhooked for awhile prior to this happening, I'm not clear if that's contribured or not. Once I shut down/restarted my computer and reattached the clip, the Z behaved normally. I have a PRS Alpha and 2 air drills.

the grounding clip is not related to your z at all. Just restart your software when this happens. When learning the machine you will find that the software and machine like it when you follow a certain procedure when using them.

Before you run a file make sure that everything up to that point had run smooth. If you are having problems with coordinates or the software, start over. Restart the software, make sure everything is running correctly before starting your file. Especially the long one. Loosing coordinates can be frustrating.
