As I stand in my garage and try to see where woul dbe best for a shopbot, I wonder, is it possible to mount the shopbot on wheels of some sort so as to move it should the need arise? or does it need to be installed strictly in one location

Several folks have added trailer jacks to each leg and can move their bot at will. I can move mine my adding custom dollys under each end using a floor jack. Once in place the bot should be level, solid and stable and you probably shouldn't plan to take it on the road. But there is no reason, provided your wiring allows it, that you can't move it around in your shop from time to time. I've moved mine 3 or 4 times to get comfortable where it is now. It was all in the same generally area but trying different positions and offsets.

If you're performing eye surgery with your ShopBot you might want to be a purist and never move it.
But I've had my SB on a home-built framing-lumber wood support with large locking-caster wheels for the 8 years I've owned it and have moved it 2-16 feet an average of about once a month. It still routs true within a couple of hundreths of an inch from end to end, which is fine for the hundreds of mostly sign jobs I've done with it.
