Sliencing a blower

what are you using as a muffler /silencer on your blower
I am about to install a vacuum "system" that has a roots blower and a rotary vane backing pump.
it has a 31/2 inch intake ,
would a truck or auto muffler work on the intake side?
hate to spend 100$ for one and find it doesn't do the job

Truck muffler does a good job of cutting down on exhaust noise.
