View Full Version : Not cutting square anymore. Why?

I'm stumped/puzzled!

I have a PRT Alpha 5x8, and the last few jobs didn't come out square. I have checked and tighten any loose bolts / V-bearings, and cleaned and greased the racks. What else should I look for?

Also, when I cut on the inside of the line of a circle it cuts a sixteenth shy.

Thanks,
Don

there was another poster recently who had the same issue. I believe it was within the last 60-90 days. Do a search using "square" to find it and the responses as i don't recall what his resolution was.

It's not enough to tighten loose bolts.
You need to make sure your gantry is square before you tighten anything.
I have a PRS, so I'm not sure how to square your machine.
Check do a search as Jack suggests.

I have this problem sometimes. Do you pull your carriage to the stops when you turn on your machine? Or could it be off a tooth.
Instructions are on web for squaring the machine and in the manual. As far as cut a 1/16 shy it could be tooling or your squaring issue. I have overcome some size issues by just adding the 1/16 to the offset to cut what I need. Hope this helps. Good luck

Thanks guys, I have gotten it almost square. I am still some where around a 32nd out of square on my machine. Thats better than the 8th I was out a week ago.

THANKS AGAIN,

Don
