The Sept issue of Wood magazine has an article on special adapters to improve dust collection. One of the items is available from Lee Valley Tools. It is a nozzle connected to an adjustable hose. It allows you to aim your vacuum were you need it. I'm wondering if anyone has tried this with a CNC http://www.leevalley.com/wood/page.aspx?c=2&p=58751&cat=1,42401&ap=1 (http://www.leevalley.com/wood/page.aspx?c=2&p=58751&cat=1%2C42401&ap=1)
I'm sure it has limitations. The nozzle is probably too small for large chips but it may be ideal for the small chips that are produced when V-carving or 3D carving.

I have tried using nozzles for dust collection. They seem to work well for some tools, but not the CNC routers. As the bit cuts in various directions, the chip spray also goes every which way, but the nozzle!

I'm having to revisit the dust collection foot issue again myself. With the second Z and the need to keep my first axis at the the highest setting the dust foot just won't fit anymore. If it's not one thing...

I just bought two of these, thinking that one on either side of the bit might catch enough to work. Once I get the rest of the plumbing I need and get it hooked up I'll post about it here.

I too will be visiting the dual dust foot question for my PRS. Not backwards compatable to the PRT is my guess.

With a PRS the front of the spindle would remain open and not be a problem. The PRT is just too busy to get an easy fit from any direction. When I moved the first Z axis up to get my full clearance so I could run bat house sides I discovered the dust foot hit the crossmember before the Z go raise up. This was using the factory setup.

I moved the foot to mount to the front of the spindle which has worked great. Now, however, with the second Z that will no longer work for me. I really struggled as to try and invest in a PRS or upgrade my PRT. In the end, upgrading was the only thing that was going to fit my budget.

I'm sure I'll have to do something creative. If you have an idea, post away!

Try using a vac-n-blast. It is large enough to pick up 2" material but you can put a crevice tool on it to pick up small dust particles. http://www.arizonavortex.com/vac-n-blast-gun/
