I need an exahaust fan for my new finish room. While I use water base finishes as much as possible, I do need the ability to use solvent based finished. Anyone know of an inexpensive source for such a fan?

Ken...
I wont go so far as to say inexpensive, but we purchased a 36" diameter all metal frame, fan and exterior louver with 2 hp explosion proof motor from Grainger. It takes a while to go thru their selection process. Based on the volume of our booth, we needed 14-16K CFM, we found one that was 15K for around $1000 shipped. Wasnt cheap, but commercial rated for flammable vapors makes it worth it.

I spray laquer all the time. I have an aluminum fan blade on a shaft with pillow block bearings on both ends with a belt pulley in the middle. The motor is mounted in a box above to keep it out of the fumes. It was approved by my insurance company and cheap. It is under a cover outside the room
Bill, thats what I did as well..
I didnt know explosion proof motors even existed. First I used a brushless motor then the speed controller went out then my neighbor bought a new monster air conditioning unit for his shop so I tore the old one apart for parts and bob's your uncle.

Ken, Instead of trying to suck the vapors out, why not use a fan to push fresh air into the booth with a louvered opening on the exhaust side? I have done a little blasting in a room set up that way. I know it worked for the dust, and kept the room cooler too.

I'm using a fan/motor out of an old central air unit. I think I paid $20. The have induction motors so there's no source for sparks. Been spraying solvent base lacquars for 20 yrs, no problems.
