3d scanners??? WHO's Got em, Who's making em?

Who is using a distance based laser rather than camera/laser setup? I am (as time allows) working up a laser scanner to put into my chuck or make a simple cnc for. But there are some questions I have. Is anyone using more than 1 laser? Also I did only a little reading on the industrial versions and this may seem like a silly question but arent cd lasers similar? My neighbor here at the shop has a pile of around 300 old computer cd readers If anyone in the forum here has any info on this it would be greatly appreciated.

We use a unit for templating kitchens that utilizes a laser from these folks:

The 1.5mm resolution probably isn't sufficient for your purposes, though.
