A while back I saw an interesting discussion on the potential to use the shopbot for metal forming. A fellow on the Vectric forum may be very close to bringing it to reality. Very cooool!

I have constantly been thinking about metal forming.
This sample is 36 ga. copper hand pressed into a 1/8" deep pattern cut in mdf. I haven't had time yet but I think a stylus could make easy work of simple patterns in heavier ga. copper. One could make simple details to be done by hand and filled with adhesive or resin with fair results.

I am excited to read all of information the above link. They are confirming ideas I had just been able to think about.

My thoughts exactly! Use the ShopBot to create the patterns to make the metal layer and then fill the underside with something/anything to retain the shape...
