I have some plans I scanned into a tiff file. I downloaded several tiff converters ones that would make the file into a eps file but it seems the files never work. so how to get a scanned file into a useful format?

Depending on the artwork, usually the best way is to manually trace it in Rhino or TurboCad.

Inkscape can give you a head start, but it is still going to need manual adjustments. Inkscape is free, you can google for it.

For some things Corel Trace helps. Not at all perfect but enough to redraw and save some time.

it is a sheet of the parts drawn out. just basic line drawings. I have turbocad but no idea how to do it. no rino either I will have v carve and picture carve.
I played with inkscape and it will export it but with errors when you try to load the file.
