I was just looking into getting a surface cutter & a 120 dg V bit ( the replaceable cutter kind )and I see Hersaf is about 1/2 the price of Amana. Is it half the quality or is Amana just very proud of their carbide inserts & tooling?
According the the gentelman who sharpens my bits, one good thing about Amana (as opposed to CMT and others) is that it has a curved profile on straight bits, so when you get them sharpened they retain the true diameter.

only the pro version have curved profiles on the straight bits. the straight bits should sharpen accurately compared to endmills and such.
but I just got some whiteside straight bits and they sure look nicer mad then the amana's.

I'm very happy with my Hersaf v bits and would recommend them. Haven't seen an Amana insert cutter.

We use the Amana 2 1/2" Surfacer. It is a good bit, but havn't had another to compare it to other than the SB/Onsrud OEM supplied with the Bot. I really like the insert bits over the carbide tipped, they seem to stay much cooler and collect less resins from the wood.
