Does anyone make an ER25 collet that "works" with an 1/8" shank bit. Everyone I can find is based off of metric ranges. The 1/8" ones that I bought, are 3mm-4mm and I have to tighten them all the way down to clamp to .125". They work, but it adds alot of time to tool changes because the nut cannot be turned by hand.
Also, the bit does not stay in the collet (damn gravity) until the nut is tightened all they way down, which takes two hands. If I had a tail, it would be fine, but alas, I have no tail. I have put collet stops on the top of the bits to hold them from falling through, but this means I need to remove the collet completely to pull the bit out from the top.
Just venting, but really, if anyone knows of a source for standard inch sized collets...

Yeah, notice the range on their 1/8" collet, .120"-.160". This is the same as the ones I have. When the collet is relaxed it is opened up to fit the large end of the range. I guess I can try the smaller one, .080"-.120", maybe it would work.
Thanks,
Gabe

I would like to note that each manufacturer has different tolerances. I use these all the time and never have an issue with slip and holds the 1/8th bit in even while tightening.
You could also consider an adapter such as 1/4th to 1/8th. MSC sells these as well.
Good luck

OK, I'll try MSC. I've been getting them from a local vendor and some from KBCTools.com.
Thanks again,

Gabe, Try these guys:

They have the lowest prices on precsion collets that I've seen and they last. Order the "on size" part#. I know what you mean about holding the bit while tightening. The 'relaxed' collets are also more difficult to clean with the standard wire brushes as you have to squeeze the collet as you push the brush through.

These look more like what I'm after. They are listed as "on size" collets...
Good deal, Thanks.

I bought a complete set of 16 ER25 collets on e bay. They cost me about $200. You might want to look there.

I have a similar problem.
I am looking for ER25 collets that accept the following two inch threaded tool sizes:
1. 1/2 Gas thread (tool has male thread)
2. 5/8-11 thread (tool has female thread)
I have no idea where to look, almost considering making them...

msc collets are a pain since they are for a range of sizes. I made the mistake and got two of them. the 3/8 only lasted one bit before it was slipping. I know i was not tightening them enough but I got far more out of the other collets.

I was probing around the site that Bill Lebeda posted, It led me to a 5 axes CNC head. Check out the videos. Awsome!!! Wonder what that puppy sells for?
