Hey guys, just got my new shop finished and thought I would show it off......okay is it not my shop but man this guy is insane. If anyone has a working shop like this I am extremely jealous. Take a look and take notes. Very very nice setup....very $$$ setup.

If I spent enough time getting all my 'stuff' that organized I'd have a dust free shop too! I wouldn't have any time for making dust!

Your right Russ.
My main hardware guy tells me he doesn't remember seeing so many clean shops!
The reason for a messy shop is things are getting done. The reason for a clean shop is nothing is being done to generate a mess.
I notice he says he always has a lot of projects going on at the same time. I never have enough time between projects to do a good cleaning.
Of course when you view this video all the way through it looks like it was done by/for Laguna Tools. Maybe they had a requirement that the shop be clean prior to the filming. Who knows.....
I have been striving for years to get all my work/table surfaces to the same height - and have not succeeded. I like my workbench higher so I don't have to lean over as far. Same with my router table. They are both higher then my tablesaw. My 14" bandsaw has a nice high table for closeup work, my 18" resaw bandsaw (Laguna) has a lower work surface (I never have liked how low it is). And of course Wall-E (Shopbot) has a predetermined table height that doesn't match anything else. :-( Oh well. I don't worry about it because it works for me.
Ask 100 woodworkers the best layout and you will get 100 answers. Each person is different and works differently.
His shop is very well organized in storage and layout. I commend him for a great job.

Same with my shop Don. I am glad it always seems to have sawdust on the floor and material stacked up ready for a project. Yes I do think it is a promo for laguna tools. Doesn't hurt that he is a doctor and probably has the $$ do set it up. I personally am a shop junkie and love seeing other shops and how they are setup. My one issue is not enough space to be setup the way I want. I have looked at your shop pics several times Don and like your shop alot. Just hope all enjoy taking a breather and watching the video. Hope everyone is busy enough to pay the bills.

Guys...
After watching that video, I will never listen to someone that says my shop is clean and organized. I can now say with full certainty that my OCD and anal retentiveness is in full check compared to that guy

I feel sorry for the guy. He doesn't have a Shopbot!!
I agree- He would have to re-due the whole shop for a SB. He would need even more than the 100 drawers to keep everything organized!

I think when I get home I'm going to organize my sand paper collection. The guys is annoying...I'm sorry. If the box he showed off was his finest work...he wasted all that money on "the best" tools and his "fine woodworking" of the last 15 years. You have a half million dollar shop! For the love of God man...a triangle match stick holder? BAHHHH!

I think the shopbot is coming in part 2
When he opened the screw drawer there where 2 items he took out that must have been out of place...
Probably fired someone over it!

His "EXIT" sign was not centered over the doorway. He does not have true OCD.

I betcha he is a batchelor and all his cra& is in the house!
I like the idea of labels on the drawers, that seems to be a very unique idea!

Gawd. And I'd wanted to be organized with the shop I'm putting together for my kid.
One point of contension. Festool makes very good stuff but that portable vac he's promoting would be plugged up and spewing carcinogenic sub-micron, invisible nasties in a matter of a few minutes with one or any combination of the 16" planer, 9" shaper or 50" dual drum sander. I find it sad and a little scarey that he doesn't point that out, meaning WHY he has the much bigger dust extraction system in addition to the good for its purpose but also the realistic limitations of the Festool vacuum cleaner. It suggests to me as well that he's getting or after promo bucks and overlooking being responsible for the benefit of newbies like I could easily be, who may not know the whole story. Doors seem to be more important than reality.

Well, our shop has its share of dust despite the dust collection, etc. but I have to say that I'm a big fan of keeping tools and materials organized.
I want to spend my time creating cool stuff and experimenting and learning - not waste it searching for the screw driver that I lost under a pile of junk.
Every tool in our shop has a particular storage spot, so I know where to find it. Every fastener is in a labeled bin, organized by type on shelves. (Though my labels are just masking tape w/marker and my bins are just Tupperware containers.)
It wasn't always this organized and I understand what many of you guys are saying, but we'd probably need an additional employee and a much larger shop if we didn't keep things organized over here.
