I'm looking into buying a PRS Alpha with a 4hp spindle, 2 Fein vaccums, and want to make sure I have enough power in my shop (100Amp service).

At the moment I have a 7.5 hp phase converter, and am able to run my 4hp panel saw and bander at the same time with that, and also have the dust collector going (1.5hp Oneida 220V).

My thought is that the spindle would take place of the panels saw, in terms of load, as both wouldn't be running at the same time. The additional power strain would be the 2 vaccums and the additional electricity the bot requires.

The other concern is the compresser (60gal tank) at the bot would have 2 air drills. If it turns out that the compresser kicking on trips the power would I be able to run it just between sheets? I'm primarily cutting/drilling frameless cabinet parts.

I thought I would be ok, but today, with the panels saw, bander, dust collector running, I turned on my 24" floor fan and the lights dimmed while it got up to speed.

Would it be possible of trying to try to similate the added power requirement with something other than the vaccums etc? Thanks

I can tell you what happens in my shop.

I have a 100 amp panel in my shop. I am running 20 4' double tube lights, two computers, laser printer, 50W laser engraver, shopbot with 4HP HSD spindle, two vacuum motors, 5 HP clear vue cyclone, 18" widebelt sander at one time. I also have a window A/C unit and stand alone dehumidifier running on hot days as well. From time to time my 5HP air compressor will turn on.

This has been working for me.

The spindle and control box require 30A circuits each (spindle 220V, control box 110V) I dont know what actual draw is at normal and max load, but should be less.

You may want to have a knowledgable electrician do a load calculation to be sure.
