My youngest daughter is graduating H.S. And has jokingly said she would like me to do a picture of her for her graduation party. So I thought I would give it a try. I have used the search in the forum and have read as much as I can. I do not have photo carv, just the new partworks. I have had my shopbot since 3-08. So I am asking if there is a way to get this done. below is the photo that I would use. thanks for any advice.

Kevin,
I was just wondering if you are going to use corian or wood? I have never used corian but have used wood and it seemed to work ok but from what I have seen some folks do on corian is very nice. Here is the link for corian

Bill I am a custom cabinet shop so I think I might do it out of corian. My countertop supplier has scraps that I should be able to get for a resonable cost. thanks for the link anyway.

Hi Kevin,
There is a file converter in the Shopbot control software that will let you create the Grayscale lithophane from your photo. You can fin this under FC (File Conversions) and chnge the files of type to .bmp or .jpeg

Finally got time to post some pictures of final product. Thanks to everyone who helped me get this done. My daugther was very excited. I had it lit up on the front table of her graduation party. There where many poeple that were baffled by how it worked. Thanks again to all who contributed. They know who they are so thanks again. Again proves what a great place this forum is!!!! http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm89/wegner81/botpics006-1.jpg

kevin,
Your picture looks as if you have a lightbulb in the center of the picture. That tends to create a "hotspot" and the outer edges are darker.
do a search for "cold cathode lights". They look like miniture flourescent tubes that put out almost no perceptible heat and are rated to run 30,000 hours and disperse the light evenly for a lithopane. They cost less than $10.00 for a 12" set of 2 but you will also need a
"wall wart" (big black square plugin). I go to the local BigLots and buy one of those million candlepower lights for $10.00 and use that plugin. There is a great tutorial that someone made showing how to do this setup. I found that lithopanes are a very satisfying project to work on. Good job, looks great!
