Faster communications / Transmission Efficiency Rate
As I spent a couple days in Gary Campbell’s shop last week, I took the opportunity to pick his brain about some communication issues I was having. I mentioned I had a slow Transmission Efficiency Rate (72.3) when I ran the speed test found in the SB software. I was also experiencing intermittent position loss on my PRT with a recent V4G upgrade and new control computer.
Here are the results after applying his quick suggestions. I hope these can help someone else having similar issues.
First: I ensured all connections at my Wago connections and control board
Second: I re-worked my ground. Instead of grounding to a column in my shop, I ran my ground to a known electrical ground inside my panel. (a licensed electrician is recommended)
Third: We discussed the entire behind the scenes actions going on inside a computer that may cause interruptions in the communication to the machine. Things as simple as a pop-up from a printer letting you know about low ink may cause issues. So, I have listed the things I did to get my computer to focus only on communicating with my machine.
A) No Internet
B) Absolutely No software except Control Software and Vectric Aspire.
C) Followed the steps listed at www.blackviper.com to shut down Windows services that are not necessary. Visit that web site and follow the directions for your operating system. I used and would recommend the “Bare Bones” settings.
D) I use a flash drive (memory stick) without any other software installed on it to transfer my files from other computers.
With these simple settings/changes, I increased my Transmission Efficiency Rate to 77.9!
I have attached a couple of pictures to show my results and computer specs.
